PARKSVILLE — Oceanside RCMP have made a pair of arrests in connection to the death of a local man in August in an apparent hit and run.

Ryan John Grob, 35, is accused of hitting and killing a man while driving a vehicle along Hirst Ave. in the early morning hours of Aug. 24, 2019.

Police allege Grob left after striking the man. Officers arrived on scene shortly after and found the man dead.

“The alleged driver in this incident has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving, fail to remain at the scene of a collision and obstruction of justice,” Cpl. Jesse Foreman said.

Another man, Travis Zackery Taylor is alleged to have been a passenger in the vehicle at the time. He faces charges of obstruction of justice.

Foreman added the investigation into the collision took a considerable amount of resources, resulting in charges being laid.

“It was a very lengthy, complex investigation involving several partners including Traffic Services, General Investigation Section, forensic IDENT…you name it,” Foreman said.

Taylor appeared before the court over the weekend and was released under numerous conditions. Grob is due to appear Monday, Oct. 19 in Nanaimo.
