NANAIMO — The most recent daily COVID-19 briefing was one of the most somber in recent memory.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced a further five people passed away from Friday, July 4 to Monday, July 6.

She was visibly distraught when breaking the news, which is one of the highest fatality announcements in weeks.

“We want to pass on our condolences, particularly to the families of people who have passed away in the last few days. As always, this is such a challenging time to have a loved one pass away. We know they are mourned by their family, their caregiver and their community here in B.C.”
