NANAIMO — A new trail will be built over the next several months alongside the pollution control centre on Hammond Bay Rd.

Regional District of Nanaimo directors approved the $684,000 initiative this week. The trail will feature a three-metre wide walking and biking path offset from Hammond Bay Rd. between McGuffie Rd. and Shores Dr.

The existing sidewalk will be removed and replaced with the path to include a treed boulevard, according to an RDN staff report.

Native plants will go in and invasive species removed beside the new trail to enhance the quality within the Walley Creek riparian area.
