Five new COVID-19 fatalities recorded across B.C., no new cases confirmed for Vancouver Island

NANAIMO — The long weekend is getting started in a tragic fashion.

The ministry of health and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced five additional COVID-19 fatalities on Friday, May 15. Four were in the Fraser Health region and one in Vancouver Coastal Health.

This brings the number of fatalities in the province due to COVID-19 to 140.

A total of five people have lost their lives on Vancouver Island.

Dr. Henry announced no new cases of the respiratory virus on Vancouver Island.

The number of confirmed cases remains at 126. The number increased by one on Thursday, May 14, but this was due to a prior data error and not a newly confirmed case.

There have been no new cases on Vancouver Island since Friday, May 8.
