NANAIMO — One of five people considered missing off the coast of Greece after a military tragedy is from Nanaimo.

Captain Kevin Hagen was on board the CH-148 Cyclone helicopter which crashed into the Ionian Sea during a training mission on Wednesday, April 29.

The Canadian Department of Defence released a list of those missing and deceased, which included Hagen.

A Sub-Lieutenant from Toronto, Abbigail Cowbrough, was previously confirmed dead in the crash.

“All of them are heroes. Each of them will leave a void that cannot be filled,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in an address on Thursday.

Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Jonathan Vance told a press conference the crash debris area is large and the extensive search will take some time.

The voice and flight data recorders were recovered and will be used to determine what happened.

“This is a time of agony for all families, friends, and fellow crew members,” Vance said.
