July 24, 1922 ~ December 7, 2019 (age 97)
Jean was born in Glasgow, Scotland where she practiced Highland dancing, played in a piano duet called the Lindsay Sisters and belonged to a speed skating club. During WW2 she worked for a tobacco company making cigarettes for the troops. She met a Canadian Seaforth Highlander at a dance and married him on April 14, 1945.
She came to Canada on the ship Aquitania as a War Bride in April 1946. Jean arrived in Halifax and then travelled by train to Vancouver where she reunited with Neil. She lived in Kelowna B.C for the first few years and worked at the fruit packing plant, then moved to Vancouver and worked at Woodwards Department Store in ladies clothing sales. She had 3 children (Kenn, Dougg and Gail) and became involved with the PTA, volunteer school lunch program and other school volunteer activities.
When the children were old enough she returned to work for the Hudson Bay Co. until retirement. She was an avid 5 pin bowler up to the age of 85 and won many trophies. She loved garage sales, playing the slot machines and going on trips to Reno with her sister. She moved to Parksville when she was 90 and went to garage sales and the Casino with her daughter.
Jean is survived by her daughter Gail MacCaulder, son-in-law George Ruffell, grandson Kennyth Stair MacCaulder and daughter-in-law Nancy Stair.
She was a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother and will be missed by all who loved and knew her. Love you Mama, go soar with the angels now.
