Clippers go down 3-1 to Capitals

DUNCAN – The Clippers settled for a weekend split against the Capitals after a 3-1 road loss Jan. 4.

Goals by Matthew Crasa in the first period and Tyrell Boucher in the second put Cowichan up 2-0 through 40 minutes.

Nanaimo had a strong third period push and Kyler Kovich’s 13th goal of the season pulled the Clippers within a goal.

But a long distance empty netter by Cruz Cote clinched the Capitals 3-1 win.

The Clippers outshot Cowichan 42-33 with Zach Borgiel getting the win over Jordan Naylor.

In two head to head games Jan. 3 and Jan. 4 neither team scored a power play goal.

Nanaimo went a combined 0/8 while Cowichan Valley finished 0/3.

The Clippers end the weekend with a one point lead on the Capitals for first place in the Island Division.

They’ll play head to head again on Jan. 11 at the Cowichan Community Centre.
