Ed passed away in Nanaimo British Columbia after a lengthy illness.
He was predeceased by his parents Maria and John, two siblings who died in infancy (Anna and Robert) and his older brother William.
He is survived by his brother John (Ellie), his sister- in-law Mathilda Russnak-Brochu, his children Petra (Warren), Patrick, his grandson Jacob and numerous nieces and nephews to whom he was known as Uncle Eddie.
Ed was born in Horná Štubňa, Czechoslovakia (Slovakia).
In 1945 the family made the decision to move to Germany and took the last train available to Stuttgart where the family lived for 6 years.
In 1951 they were sponsored to immigrate to Canada by the Lichtner family in Manning Alberta.
His parents and two brothers settled in North Star Alberta where they farmed among many families from the old country.
Ed moved to Calgary when he was 17, lived with John and Ellie while he worked at Gunther’s Building Supplies.
Ed loved sports as a young man, he loved to watch and play hockey and he played soccer in the sixties with the Calgary Springer Kickers.
Ed put himself through school to attain the CMA accounting designation. After, he worked in the oil and gas industry until 1989.
He built 3 houses in his lifetime, 2 family homes and a cabin where he felt most himself. He trained the family dog, Katja, who was his dear companion for many years.
He worked with Patrick for a brief period on pipeline construction and moved to Parksville BC in 2013.
