OCTOBER 21, 1948 ~ AUGUST 27, 2018 (AGE 69)
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family mourns the passing of Derald, better known to his family and friends as Darryl, after a battle with lung cancer. Darryl chose to leave his life on earth with dignity intact and passed away peacefully in his home in Qualicum Beach, BC aided by Dr Marcia Fukunaga and Susie, RN.
Predeceased by his father, Rubin in 1993; mother, Irene in 1994; and brother, Reg in 2018, Darryl will be sorely missed by his wife, Lois Curry; children, Lee (Cayley) of West Kelowna; Blake (Kyla) of Cranbrook; Tami Curry of Salmon Arm; Darren (Tricia) Curry of Calgary; brother, Dwayn of Sorrento; grandsons, Bentley, Kael, Behn, Alex, Nick; granddaughters, Jordan, Brynlee, Micah, and Sterling; as well as his beloved second Mum, Mona Bessey, many extended family members and close friends.
Darryl was born in Edmonton and grew up in Calmar, Alberta. His most enjoyable times were spent boating with his sons in the Okanagan, visiting family, and driving the backroads in Calmar. He also spent many happy years living in Hudson’s Hope, BC.
Darryl worked in the heavy construction industry working on many of the hydro-electric Projects in BC. Prior to retirement, he worked for Peter Kiewit Sons on various projects, the last being on bridges near Golden, BC. He loved the home he built in Qualicum Beach and spent many happy hours working in his garden and puttering in his shop. He was also well known for his blackberry wine – being told my many that it was the best they had ever tasted.
The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Nanaimo Cancer Clinic for their excellent care as they fought to help Darryl win his battle with cancer. A great big thank you to the family doctor, Dr Wagenaar and his staff. And finally, a big thank you to all those who phoned or came to visit – it meant so much to Darryl to have your support.
In keeping with Darryl’s wishes, there will be no service.
