FEBRUARY 13, 1928 ~ SEPTEMBER 4, 2018 (AGE 90)
Don Archibald, a witty storyteller who was always ready to share a joke, passed away on September 4, 2018 at the age of 90. Although hearts are now grieving, his family is grateful that he was able to stay as long as he could.
65 years ago, Don married the love of his life, Eva (Ripley) and they have been best friends ever since. She was his sweetheart then and now, and will always be his angel. They have three daughters, Brenda Matthews (John), Beverley Farkas (Peter – Don’s buddy) and Heather Fredericks, and grandchildren Tegan, Katie (Jeff), Ashlee (Jen), Aaron (Angie), David, Brian (Janelle) and Danny as well as great grandchildren, James, Dylan, Anna, Lili, Lucas, Aeson and Akai.
There are no words to express the joy and pride that Don’s family brought to his life; he loved hearing their stories and knowing what was happening in their lives. Don is also survived by a world of lifelong friends, including his “Hon” Harry and Lenore, and his cribbage partner Richard, nephews, nieces, special cousins, and sister-inlaw Iris who has brought much joy through phone calls from Australia. The family would like to offer unyielding gratitude to the staff and residents at Kiwanis Village whose love and kindness has been an overwhelming source of strength.
Don requested that we celebrate his life, and in doing so, invite you to join us for an afternoon of storytelling and memories on Saturday, September 22, 2018 in the auditorium at Kiwanis House (1233 Kiwanis Crescent, Nanaimo) at 1:00 pm. Eva has gratefully declined flowers and asked that donations be made to the Cerebral Palsy Association of BC or a charity of your choice, and on Don’s behalf, to please give someone a special hug and a smile.
