DECEMBER 23, 1930 ~ MARCH 26, 2019 (AGE 88)
Edward George Ireland was Born in Toronto on December 23rd, 1930 he passed away March 26th, 2019 with loving family by his side in Nanaimo Hospital. He joins his wife Shirley, his son Richard, his Grandson Jason, Brothers Gordon and Wilfred, Sisters Thelma, Lorraine and Marion as well as his dogs, Benji, Jewel, Sparky and Chico.
Lovingly known as Ed by friends and neighbours in Qualicum Beach, and as Sonny by friends and family growing up. He was passionate about wood working, loved to build garden pieces, doll furniture for the grandkids, as well as many other things.
His greatest passion was dogs. He loved dogs more than most knew, and when his dog passed he was adamant on adopting a senior dog from a shelter. Meesha, a 13 year old Havanese, was by his side right up to when he passed away. You could often find Ed and Meesha sitting by the big front window watching for dogs, deer and bunnies to bark at. You’d also hear Meesha barking for her breakfast, lunch and dinner, adamant Ed kept a timely feeding schedule. He would pull up his TV tray, sit on the couch, with Meesha on his left, both enjoying their meals together, and often watching hockey when it was on.
The family would love to hear your stories of Ed (fondly known as Gramps by his granddaughter and great-grandkids, Faith and Morgan) and your lovely memories. In lieu of flowers please feel free to send a donation to the SPCA or to a senior dog rescue of your choice, in his name.
Gramps, your gentleness, your kindness, and your patience inspire me to be a better person every day. My life was brighter with you in it. You are the type of human I strive to be and will cherish every memory that I have with you.
