Justice system making slow but sure steps to more timely justice, top judge says
OTTAWA — Canada’s top judge says there is slow but sure progress toward more timely justice in Canadian courts after years of backlogs and delays.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Richard Wagner says things are on the right path almost three years after the high court set out strict timelines for completing criminal trials.
Wagner told a news conference today that governments, judges, law societies and lawyers must work together to continue trying to improve the system.
He says it’s important to change not only procedures and guidelines, but the way people think about access to justice.
