Ottawa 67s extend win streak with 4-3 victory over Guelph Storm

OTTAWA — The Ottawa 67s survived a tough first period to post their 14th-straight playoff victory on Saturday.

The 67s downed the Guelph Storm 4-3 and now hold a 2-0 series lead in the Ontario Hockey League Finals.

Sasha Chmelevski, Austen Keating, Kyle Maksimovich and Tye Felhaber all found the net for Ottawa, while Lucas Chiodo registered three assists.

Alexey Toropchenko put up two goals for the Storm and Keegan Stevenson rounded out the scoring.

Storm netminder Anthony Popovich had 37 saves.

Guelph opened the game with a roar, scoring twice in the first frame before Ottawa goalie Mike DiPietro went down with an apparent lower-body injury. He was replaced by Cedrick Andree, who stopped 26-of-27 shots and held on for the win.

The 8,775-strong crowd in Ottawa responded with cheers of “Andree! Andree! Andree!”

The 18-year-old from Orleans, Ont., said he was happy to hear the chants but had to tune them out to focus on the game.

“I say one thing in my head, ‘Watch the puck,’ ” he said. “After the first save, I was like, ‘Wow I was pretty lucky it hit my (stick) knob.’ … I think I had puck luck on my side too. I just have to find a way to make those saves.”

The 67s have yet to lose in their playoff campaign. The series will continue in Guelph on Monday.
