Clippers give up two goals late, fall 4-1 to Chilliwack

NANAIMO — The first BCHL goal by Robby Drazner was the highlight in a Clippers 4-1 loss to the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday.

After a strong first period, a late penalty and game misconduct to Nick Wilson put the Chiefs on the man advantage.

Harrison Blaisdell took advantage and scored with .6 seconds left on the clock in the first period.

A second goal by Chilliwack’s Matt Holmes 14 seconds into the second, really put Nanaimo behind the eight ball.

But Robby Drazner’s rocket from the right side cut the deficit to 2-1 mid way through the period to keep the game close.

Some key saves by Jordan Naylor gave the Clippers a chance to come back in the third.

There were three power plays for Nanaimo in the final frame but the Clippers failed to score.

With the team trying to press in the third period the Chiefs countered with goals by Kevin Wall and Harrison Blaisdell in the final three and a half minutes.

Overall the power plays were five to three in Nanaimo’s favour but Blaisdell’s first period buzzer beater was the only man advantage goal on the night.

Chilliwack outshot Nanaimo 27-19 with Mathieu Caron getting the victory.
 

Friday’s Three Stars were Harrison Blaisdell (2g), Robby Drazner (1g), and Kevin Wall (1g).

Overall the Chiefs have now won six consecutive games while Nanaimo has lost three straight.

The Clippers will look to regroup on Saturday night with a home date against the Powell River Kings.

Powell River and Nanaimo have already face each other twice the Kings taking a pair of 4-2 decisions at the Hap Parker Arena.

By the time October 27th rolls around the Kings and Clippers will have played five times in a bizarre quirk of the BCHL schedule.
