Inspection finds Lofstrom’s Tub Engine was Legal

Jul 25, 2016 | 5:40 PM

Justin Lofstrom can officially celebrate his bathtub race title.

The 34 year old Nanaimo native won the 50th World Championship Bathtub race Sunday, but the result was unofficial pending an inspection of his motor.

The second place finisher, Chris Glenn, had filed a protest calling for the review.

Race officials confirmed Monday afternoon that an inspection found the motor was legal and Lofstrom’s win has been declared official.

It’s the first career win for Lofstrom, who has been tubbing on and off for 12 years.

His time of 1:07:30 is a new world record.

The society has also released some of the other stats surrounding the race. Of the 42 entries, there were 15 super modified, 8 modified and 19 stock tubs. 34 tubs finished the race.

The first lady to finish was Katherine Lamoureux of Nanaimo at 1:49:07. The oldest tubber was 60 year old Stephen Wilson of Nanaimo, while the youngest was 20 year old Matthew Collins. Darren Logan took home the unenviable title of last place finisher.
