Clippers winning streak hits four with 4-2 win in Alberni Valley

PORT ALBERNI – The earned their fifth victory when trailing after 40 minutes by defeating the Bulldogs 4-2 on Sunday.

It was a fast paced first period with each team scoring once.

Tanner Pochipinski put the Bulldogs ahead when he beat Jordan Naylor with a quick shot from the left wing.

Carter Stephenson tied it with his power play point shot.

The only goal of the second period was a power play deflection by Keaton Mastrodonato.

Nanaimo did have a five on three in for 35 seconds but failed to beat netminder John Hawthorne.

It was all Nanaimo in the third with a tying goal by Ethan Scardina, and then Jonathan Stein grabbing the game winner after stealing the puck in the Alberni zone.

Thomas Samuelsen added an empty netter which was his fifth goal in six games.

Jordan Naylor was very good in the Nanaimo net with 36 saves on 38 shots, the Clippers had 28.

Nanaimo went 1/6 on the power play and 2/3 on the penalty kill.

Sunday’s Three Stars were Jordan Naylor (36 saves), Austin Spiridakis (0pts), and Sammy Steele (1a).

The victory was Nanaimo’s fourth straight as they embark on a 13 day Christmas Break.

The Clippers have also won three in a row over the Bulldogs to take a 3-2 lead in the season series.

Nanaimo’s next game is December 29 versus the Victoria Grizzlies, and they’re back in Port Alberni on December 31.
