Lantzville approves pipe to connect to Nanaimo water system

LANTZVILLE — A key step forward towards much needed water supply for the District of Lantzville.

Lantzville council has agreed to pay $800,000 for the construction of a pipe to tap into Nanaimo’s water system in the city’s north-end.

Lantzville Mayor Colin Haime was among three councillors who voted against the plan, not because he’s opposed to water, he says, but because of a lack of clarity on who gets the new water and how a $1.3-million connection fee will be paid.

“Currently there is no identified source, there is no financial plan directly identifying who is to pay that number,” says Haime.
