Clippers stay hot with 3-2 win over Cowichan

NANAIMO — The Clippers are still rolling in November after a 3-2 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period with Nanaimo’s leading scorer Ethan Scardina getting the home side out in front, before Niko Selivanov evened it up for the Caps.

Cole Broadhurst gave Cowichan Valley a 2-1 lead in the second, but Nanaimo took control with goals by Gunnar Wegleitner and Matt Mosher who beat Caps goalie Jack Grant.

The Clippers held on for the victory thanks to the work of Jordan Naylor in the third period.  

Nanaimo’s netminder stopped all 18 shots he faced in a period that saw Cowichan outshoot the Clippers 18-3.

Overall the shots finished 30–24 for the Capitals.

Although Nanaimo went 0/4 on the man advantage they posted their first perfect penalty killing game in November going 5/5.

Friday’s Three Stars were 1) Sammy Steele 2a, 2) Niko Selivanov 1g, 3) Jordan Naylor 28 saves.

The Clippers are now 3-0 against the Capitals this season, and they’re on their second three game winning streak of the year.

Nanaimo will host Prince George at 2 p.m. Sunday before traveling down to Duncan on Tuesday.
