publication ban lifted after 3 years

Trio sentenced after violent assaults

Aug 5, 2026 | 8:52 AM

After three years of trials, a publication ban has finally been lifted on a high profile Port Alberni case that sent David Bird and Shae Doiron to prison.

Bird, Doiron and Megan Ingram initially faced dozens of charges including B&E, robbery, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and vehicle theft, after breaking into a room at the Harbourview Apartments, and assaulting three occupants, stealing their money and a car in December 2022.

Bird was arrested in April 2023 after barricading himself in a Redford Street hotel room, which required the RCMP Critical Incident Command Team.

In November 2023 he was sentenced to 18 months jail and 3 years probation.

The case was protected by a publication ban awaiting sentencing for Ingram and Doiron.

Ingram was a first time offender and received a 2-year community sentence order to keep her in a treatment program, while Doiron was sentenced Friday to 4 years prison for her role which included destroyong the apartment and assaulting and threatening the three victims with a machete.

Both Bird and Doiron had significant criminal histories of violence.

Bird has been banned from returning to Port Alberni.
