PORT ALBERNI — A female swimmer reported to have been swept away by the current of the Stamp River led to an extensive search.

A Port Alberni RCMP news release states their detachment received a report of the incident on Sunday, July 5 at 5:30 p.m. at Stamp River Provincial Park.

“Emergency services and police conducted a search for the swimmer; they have not yet been located,” the release stated.

On Monday, Port Alberni RCMP stated resources from several agencies are involved in the search for the swimmer.

“While the provincial park remains open to the public, the section of trail nearest the falls is currently closed to allow search crews to conduct their operations safely and effectively,” the release stated.
