Crab sale stopped
Federal fisheries officers have put a stop to roadside crab and fish sales advertised on Facebook.
First Nations fishermen have been selling Nitinat Lake crab at Port Alberni’s Victoria Quay and Harbour Quay and in Nanaimo and Duncan for the past year, advertising their sales on social media.
DFO Detachment Commander Eric Zimmermann says officers have been working with Ditidaht First Nations leaders to stop the unlicenced and illegal sales of food, social and ceremonial catches.
“If he doesn’t have the proper permits or licences to enable him to sell commercially then we’ll work closely with the band and get it all sorted out,” he said.
