A community champion is moving on.
Salvation Army Major Michael Ramsay is being moved to Burnaby by the church.
He said he will forever carry fond memories of his 8 years leading the Alberni ministries.
“I can’t even put into words how good everybody in this community is,” he said. “How everybody steps up and works together; it isn’t like this everywhere. Port Alberni really is the community with a heart.”
During his time in Port Alberni, Ramsay saved the Bread of Life and improved services there, established the only dry shelter in the community, brought in a food truck to distribute food during COVID which is still operational today, formed partnerships with every community organization, and was awarded the King Charles Coronation Medal for community service.
Ramsay said he will be replaced by his boss, Captain Sharon Tidd.
“If I were to hand pick a replacement I would pick her,” he said. “It speaks so well of how good the community of Port Alberni is, if my boss is looking for possible places to go and she picks here.”
Ramsay said he will forever cherish his time in Port Alberni and the many friends he and his family made here.
