Clippers fail to close out Bulldogs

PORT ALBERNI — Scoring first has been a curse in the Clippers playoff series with the Bulldogs.

In Game 4 Nanaimo scored the opening goal for the first time but suffered their first loss 5-2.

Landon Pappas gave the Clippers a first period lead which held up until late in the middle frame when Grady Magner evened the score on an Alberni Valley man advantage.

Hayden Fechner gave Nanaimo the lead back with a wicked shot early in the third, only to have the Bulldogs reel off four straight goals to win.

Wyatt Blace, Teague McAllister, Kai Matthew and Magner on another power play scored in a seven minute span to secure the Bulldogs victory.

Nanaimo outshot Alberni 38-32 with Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau taking the loss to first star of the game Derik Brouillard.

The Bulldogs scored their first power play goals of the series going 2/3 while Nanaimo finished 0/3 on their own power plays.

With the loss Nanaimo takes a 3-1 series lead into another potential elimination game on April 10 at Frank Crane Arena.

The Clippers had previously won five straight head to head meetings with Alberni Valley dating back to Jan. 30 before suffering the Game 4 setback.
