Clippers fall to third consecutive loss against Grizzlies

NANAIMO — The Clippers impressive 2026 has hit a snag with three straight divisional losses.

Nanaimo has lost to Powell River and twice to Victoria after the latest setback, a 6-4 score against the Grizzlies.

In the first period of their March 6 game the Clippers got down 2-0 on early goals from Maddux Martin and Parker MacDougall.

Patrick Fortune countered to cut into the Grizzlies lead before the end of the first period.

The Clippers then tied the game on an Indiana Grossbard power play tally only to see Victoria get the lead back on a power play tip in by former Nanaimo captain Carson Lesiuk.

Vidar Blixt gave the Grizzlies a 40 minute edge when he scored on a wrap around try.

MacDougall’s second of the game put the Clippers in a deep hole that they almost dug out of thanks to power play goals by Grossbard and Sam Boisvert.

But a power play tally from Carter Oakenfold midway through the final frame sealed the Grizzlies victory.

Overall Victoria outshot Nanaimo 41-36 with the Clippers going 3/4 on the man advantage and 2/4 killing penalties.

Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau took the loss in goal to the Grizzlies Mikus Vecvanags.

The season series between the two clubs is now even at 2-2 with another matchup on March 7 at the Q Centre at 6 p.m.
