Clippers five goal second period vaults the team to victory in Cranbrook

CRANBROOK — The Clippers had a dominant second half performance in a 7-3 road win over the Bucks.

Samuel Lyne scored late in the first period to give Cranbrook the lead but Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau shut the door from that moment until halfway through the third period.

Seguin-Lescarbeau had a a dominant middle frame especially with the Clippers giving up an early two man advantage.

The game changed on a major penalty to the Bucks Konnor Bissell who was given a boarding penalty on a late hit on Nanaimo’s Justin Collins.

The Clippers scored 13 seconds into that power play and would add another two goals before the major expired.

In total Nanaimo reeled off five goals in the final seven minutes of the second, starting with Charles Beland, Nathan Larioza, and Patrick Fortune on the man advantage, Jack Rimmer at four on four and Tanner Bruender with the teams back at even strength.

Rimmer scored again early in the third period before the Bucks mounted a rally on goals by Shane Tronoski on the power play and Konstantin Hutzinger on a goal mouth tip in.

Samuel Boisvert put an end to Cranbrook’s come back hopes with a breakaway goal late in the game.

Both Rimmer and Boisvert finished the contest with three points.

The Bucks outshot the Clippers 38-30 and Nanaimo won the special teams battle by going 3/4 on the man advantage and 4/5 killing penalties.

Nanaimo is on a two game winning streak heading into a pair of home games Jan. 9 versus Powell River and Jan, 10 against Victoria.
