‘Mammograms save lives:’ mobile screening clinic coming to Oceanside

Dec 6, 2025 | 6:02 AM

QUALICUM BEACH — Mobile breast cancer screen is set to be available in Oceanside over the next two weeks.

BC Cancer’s mobile screening mammogram vehicle will be stationed in Qualicum Beach, at the Civic Centre, between Monday, Dec. 8 to Friday, Dec. 12, then again the following week from Dec. 15 to 18.

The initiative is helping BC Cancer deliver quicker access to the potentially life-saving scan, with around 10 per cent of all screening mammograms conducted in similar mobile setups.

“Mammograms save lives by detecting breast cancers early, often before they have spread and when more treatment options are available,” Rableen Nagra, director, Breast & Lung Screening Operations at BC Cancer, said in a statement. “More people in B.C. are being diagnosed with breast cancer, but fewer are dying from the disease.”

Nagra attributes the change to early detection and treatment.

The mobile clinic will conduct a full screening mammogram, consisting of four images which look for hidden cancer growths.

BC Cancer notes properly administered mammograms often find lumps upwards of three years before they can be felt.

Appointments can be made by calling 1-800-663-9203 or by going to the BC Cancer website.

Annual mammograms are recommended for woman who have a family history of breast cancer, while those without a known connection should be examined every two years.
