Clippers overrun by first place Capitals

NANAIMO — It was a long night for the Clippers in a 6-2 home loss to Cowichan Valley.

Nanaimo got down 2-0 early on first period goals by Ryan Harvey and Jack McAra.

Will Subject’s first goal of the season got the Clippers back into the game in the final minute of the first period but the contest was all but decided by the five minute mark of the second.

Power play markers by the Capitals Massimo Fazio and Alex Payie extended the lead to 4-1 before Tanner Bruender snapped home a power play goal to cut the lead again.

At 4:46 of the middle frame defenceman Tyler Rowland walked in and buried a shot by Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau to give Cowichan Valley control they would never relinquish.

A late third period goal by Capitals leading scorer Anthony Hall brought the score to 6-2.

Nanaimo was outshot 30-22 and the Clippers went 1/4 on the man advantage while surrendering goals on both Capitals power plays.

The season series sits at 3-1-1 in the Clippers favour with an immediate rematch on Dec. 6 at the Cowichan Valley Community Centre and another game slated for Dec. 16 in Duncan.
