KITAKYUSHU, JAPAN — A Nanaimo skateboarder’s first real foray into international competition has exceeded all expectations.

Evie Pritchard, 13, finished 13th overall in the women’s street competition at the World Skateboarding Tour World Cup event in Kitakyushu, Japan, with competition wrapping Sunday, Nov. 30.

Pritchard exceeded her pre-championship expectation of a top half finish, eventually making it into the semi-finals with a total score of 105.48.

She was the only Canadian in the women’s field, and her performances are enough to earn her automatic entry onto the Canadian national team ahead of a potential Olympic appearance in 2028.

Pritchard battled her way through the week with continually better performances.

She ranked 27th overall through qualifying, but advanced thanks in large part to an impressive second run scoring 30.25 points.

Her skates improved into the quarter finals, advancing in 16th position with a score of 42.08.

In the semi-final, Pritchard’s best run was scored 53.34, which was best among competitors at the time, but it wasn’t enough to see her advance to the eight-woman final round.

Pritchard is beginning to expand her travel schedule in a bid to pursue a potential Olympic Games spot in Los Angeles in 2028 and/or Brisbane, Australia in 2032.

This most recent event, as well as others in 2026 in Brazil, Italy, Senegal and Paraguay, helped her earn points in the World Skate standings.

Seven Canadian athletes were at the event, however two were injured in pre-championship warmups and did not compete.

One other, Shay Sandiford from Courtenay, was the only other Canadian to make it past the qualification stage and skated in the quarter finals of his division.
