Clippers Fechner has brought consistent scoring from day one

NANAIMO — Clippers leading scorer Hayden Fechner has made a large impact to his team’s offense playing in a first line centre role.

Fechner leads Nanaimo with 27 points in 20 games and has only been held off the scoresheet twice since Oct. 13.

The BCHL gave the Edmonton native an honourable mention for the Three Stars of the Week for Nov. 17-23 as he earned five points in three games in that span, but he was quick to credit linemates Sam Boisvert and Jack Rimmer for his success.

“I think the team’s doing great and my line is finding chemistry and that helps out a lot. Sam’s a really good passer and we both understand how the other plays. Jack brings a little bit of grit to our line and he’s very good below the goal line and he’s been a big part of our line’s success.”

Fechner is in his final year of junior eligibility and is in the process of talking to some NCAA Division 1 schools about his hockey future.

There are still some aspects of his game the 20-year-old thinks he can improve on.

“I think some games I’m playing really well but other games I’m not at that same level. It’s a consistency thing right now. If I can be consistent every game it will help our team and help me as well.”

The Clippers locker room has been tight this season and Fechner believes that has translated to a strong on ice performance.

“Everyone is best friends with everyone and that’s a huge part that carries on to the ice. When you’re all friends you all play for each other. We just want to win as many games as we can to put ourselves in a good spot for the post season.”

Playoff experience is something that Fechner brings to the table after he and current Clipper Landon Pappas won the Centennial Cup in 2025.

“In Calgary we went on a long playoff run plus the national tournament. Me and Pappas can bring that experience and Rimmer won the Centennial Cup the year before. We have a couple of guys who know how to go deep in playoffs and hopefully we can do that again this year.”

Clippers highlights from games Nov 21 and Nov 22 in Coquitlam and Surrey.

The Clippers wrap up November with a game in Alberni Valley on Friday, Nov. 28 and a home contest versus Langley on Saturday, Nov. 29.

With a record of 12-7-2 Nanaimo is in second place in the Coastal West Division, seven points behind the first place Capitals.
