How British Columbia is marking Remembrance Day 2025

Here is a roundup of some of the events to mark Remembrance Day in British Columbia on Tuesday. Services traditionally include two minutes of silence at 11 a.m., after the playing of the Last Post. The timing reflects when the armistice ending the First World War went into effect on the 11th hour of Nov. 11, 1918.

Vancouver

The city’s main service will be held at the Cenotaph at Victory Square at 200 West Hastings St. in downtown Vancouver. The program begins with a procession to the square at 10 a.m.

Surrey

There will be several services in Surrey, including at Veterans Square, 17710 56A Ave., with a procession to the square beginning at 10 a.m., before the service at 10:25 a.m. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the City of Surrey Facebook page.

Victoria

The provincial capital’s Remembrance Day parade will take place along the Inner Harbour before a service at the legislative cenotaph, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Kelowna

A parade to Kelowna’s City Park cenotaph begins at about 10:45 a.m., before the service that continues to 11:30 a.m., when there will be a post-ceremony parade.

Prince George

A ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. will be held at Prince George Conference and Civic Centre, before a parade at 10:30 a.m. to the cenotaph at Veteran’s Plaza, outside City Hall.

Flyovers across B.C.

The Royal Canadian Air Force will conduct flypasts over Remembrance Day ceremonies across British Columbia. In Vancouver, the flight will be conducted by a Sikorsky Cyclone helicopter. Flights over communities on Vancouver Island — including Campbell River, Courtenay, Nanaimo and Sidney — will involve a Kingfisher search-and-rescue plane, while a Lockheed Aurora maritime patrol plane will fly over Westwold and Kamloops.
