One one Canadian city will be chosen

Port Alberni enters ‘Hometown Takeover’

Port Alberni is in the running for Home & Garden TV’s popular series ‘Hometown Takeover’.
If selected, the show would help renovate 6 public spaces, 6 businesses and 6 homes.
City Communications Manager Alysha Pussepp says our video application is being put together this week for submission.
“The City is in the middle of developing their submission, which we are going to be submitting at the end of this week,” she said. “As we move into the winter months they’re going to be going through a selection process to narrow down a community that they are most interested in, with the intention of coming to that community in the spring and filming for five months and then going to air in late 2026 / early 2027.”
Pussepp says we’re up against Powell River, Lytton and Jasper and many other communities who have entered.
“Stiff competition for sure, but Port Alberni’s unique blend of resilience and creativity and community spirit makes us the perfect candidate for Hometown Takeover Canada,” she said.
Pussepp says when the show premiered in the United States, more than 6000 towns applied to be one of the 3 cities selected.
Only one Canadian city will be chosen.
No stranger to TV show promotions, Port Alberni was a finalist in CBC’s Hockeyville contest almost 20 years ago.
