Clippers run over by Spruce Kings in final game of weekend series

PRINCE GEORGE — The Clippers had a difficult time containing the best power play in the BCHL in a weekend series in Prince George.

On Oct. 19 Nanaimo gave up four power play goals in a 9-4 loss to the Spruce Kings.

In two games Prince George went a combined 7/12 on the man advantage and outscored the Clippers 16-9.

In the series finale the Clippers had three power play goals but the Spruce Kings had four and for a Nanaimo team that had piled on over 1,000 kilometres of travel in a week and lost some key players to injury the deficits were too steep to dig out of.

Nanaimo led 1-0 briefly thanks to a Sam Boisvert power play goal but the score was 2-1 Prince George after 20 minutes and 5-1 after two periods.

The teams swapped seven goals in the final period with Clipper tallies going to Jack Rimmer on the man advantage, Charles Beland, and Hayden Fechner with his team leading eighth goal also on the power play.

Final shots were 32-31 for the Spruce Kings as Ryder Green got the victory over Nanaimo’s Dryden Riley.

The Clippers have now dropped three straight games as they head into a weekend series in Powell River on Oct. 24 and 25.
