Nanaimo man facing assault charge after motorcycle incident with cyclist

Oct 7, 2025 | 5:26 AM

NANAIMO — A local man, already facing drug possession charges, has been arrested and charged in connection to a high-profile motor vehicle incident.

On Aug. 2, 2025, dash cam video captured a motorcyclist riding by a cyclist near the Departure Bay Rd. and Granite Park Rd. intersection. Footage captured the motorcyclist pushing the cyclist from behind before riding away.

“After being shoved, the cyclist lost control of his bike and collided with the raised sidewalk, eventually crashing face first,” RCMP said in a statement.

Investigators alleged 48-year-old Marcel David Trudeau was the motorcyclist seen in the footage.

Police said the cyclist required medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Video of the incident spread quickly on social media, which police said “was extremely useful” in identifying a suspect.

Charges of assault causing bodily harm and dangerous operation of a conveyance were laid against Trudeau on Monday, Oct. 6 and he will begin answering to the charges on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Coincidentally, Trudeau already had a court appearance booked Tuesday for an arraignment on a pair of possession for the purpose of trafficking charges stemming from a March 2024 incident in Nanaimo.
