The Alberni – Clayoquot Regional District Board of Directors are in Victoria this week at the annual Union of BC Municipalities meeting.
Chair John Jack says the ACRD has put forward multiple resolutions to improve rural healthcare, requesting provincial help in attracting and retaining doctors and nurses with money and other incentives.
“We have to be more competitive in attracting and retaining doctors and nurses when it come to their ability to choose where they work, and advocating for a change in the way the remuneration works for healthcare practitioners,” he said. “There need to be better incentives for those healthcare workers to choose our communities and stay in our communities.”
Jack said they have also been pushing provincial ministers to look at a secondary route out of the Alberni Valley, and will be sitting down tomorrow with Forests Minister Ravi Parmar.
