NANAIMO — Concerns are rising for a Nanaimo man and his girlfriend, believed to be travelling on a sailboat and haven’t been heard from in nearly a month.

Robert Stalker, 30, and Julie De Myer, 33, were last heard from on July 20, according to Nanaimo RCMP Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien.

A newly filed missing person’s report was recently submitted to Nanaimo RCMP.

O’Brien said the couple is thought to be on a white sailboat named ‘Calliope.’

“They were travelling in and around the Nanaimo area, there is no known destination, they didn’t have a travel plan. We just wanted to get this out to the public as quick as possible to help us find these two,” O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW.

He said police have limited information to discern where the couple could be.

Stalker is Caucasian, 6’2″, 190 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

De Myer is also Caucasian, standing 5’10”, 155 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes.

While Stalker is from Nanaimo, O’Brien said it’s not immediately clear what De Myer’s hometown is.

Anybody with information is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 1-250-754-2345.

The search represents the second missing person’s file in recent months for Nanaimo RCMP involving a sailboat.

Amber Nitchman, 34, the owner of the sailboat ‘Gypsy Soul’, remains missing after her boat was discovered washed ashore off Nanaimo’s Bayshore Dr. in the city’s north end on May 15.
