Bulls, Broncs & Barrels: Coombs Rodeo ready to roll

COOMBS — A popular annual event with a distinct western flare, returns to the mid-Island for their ninth annual offering.

Bulls, Broncs & Barrels, commonly referred to as the Coombs Rodeo, features the bulk of its itinerary on Saturday, Aug 16 and Sunday, Aug. 17 at the Coombs Rodeo Grounds located at 2602 Alberni Hwy.

The event begins with a free Friday evening concert between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Hosted by Vancouver Island Western Heritage Association (VIWHA) the event includes bull and bronco riding and barrel racing.

Prize money of up to $7,000 is up for grabs for contestants.

Several food trucks, a concession, vendors and a beer garden are available at the event, which includes sold-out, on-site camping, according to the VIWHA website.

A rodeo clown will also be on hand.

Admission is by cash only, with weekend and day passes available.

VIWHA was established in 2014 to recognize and promote western heritage by organizing and presenting public events.
