Alberni man dies in housefire

A Port Alberni man is dead and his girlfriend remains in hospital after a housefire at 16th and Neill on Saturday.

The fire broke out shortly after 1 am and firefighters battled it for 6 hours before it could be extinguished with the help of the aerial ladder truck and neighbouring volunteer departments.

RCMP and fire investigators were on scene through the weekend but have not released any information regarding the cause of the fire.
