NANAIMO — Add another accolade for a local singer in her growing career.

Lauren Spencer-Smith, who was born in Port Alberni but spent much of her formative years in Nanaimo, performed ‘O’Canada’ at the 2025 Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 15, taking centre stage at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia before the game.

The multi-time Juno nominated singer shot to superstardom in 2020 when she represented the Island on American Idol, reaching the top 20 in the competition, which was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She has since released new music and covers of existing songs, and performed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, at Wembley Stadium in England and on ABC’s New Years Eve coverage in 2023.

Spencer-Smith earned three Juno nominations in 2024, including for artist of the year, on top of another two nominations a year prior.

She also made a guest appearance on the show which helped boost her career, American Idol, during the 2024 season.

The game itself went down to the wire with a 6-6 tie between the American and National League squads.

The National League eventually claimed the title via a home run derby-style tiebreaker.
