NANAIMO — A suspicious package left outside the main entrance of the Nanaimo RCMP detachment last week which prompted a call to the bomb squad, turned out to be a false alarm.

Police reported the “discovery of an unclaimed package” around 3 p.m. on Friday, July 11, on the front steps of their building on Prideaux St., causing a closure of the building and front parking lot.

In a statement released on Monday, July 14, Cst. Sherri Wade with the Nanaimo RCMP said the package was wrapped in duct tape and mailed locally to their building, with no return address.

The RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit was called in and examined the package and deemed it not to be a threat, as it only contained some toys and books.
