Woman accused of murdering husband in Nanaimo

NANAIMO — Following a lengthy investigation, a first-degree murder charge has been laid against a woman who allegedly killed her partner.

Desiree Dawn Mosher, 44, is charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of 30-year-old Ryan Mosher, whose body was discovered in a central Nanaimo home on August 12, 2021.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Sherri Wade told NanaimoNewsNOW Desiree Mosher was arrested on Friday, June 6, in Kelowna by members of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Cst. Wade said the investigation was an exhaustive one.

“All of us are used to seeing things happen much more quickly on TV, but it’s so complicated these sorts of files and there’s so much that needs to be gathered before a charge has been approved,” Wade said.

Wade stated the accused remains in custody and is next scheduled to be in court on Monday, June 16.

Nanaimo RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit assumed control of the investigation of Mosher’s death.

Kelowna RCMP asked the Nanaimo RCMP detachment to follow through on a check well-being call at the Mosher residence, leading to the discovery of Mosher’s body.

Cst. Wade is not disclosing precisely where the homicide occurred or how Mosher died.

“We won’t know very much from now on, as it’s a matter in the courts.”

Wade stated the Moshers were relatively new to Nanaimo, having only lived in the Harbour City a few months prior to the incident.

2021 was a busy year for Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit investigators, with three homicides occurring that year in Nanaimo.

The only homicide case from 2021 which hasn’t resulted in an arrest or charge approval involves the death of 58-year-old Randell Charles Thomas, whose body was discovered in bushes along the Nanaimo Parkway off Tamara Dr. on March 31, 2021.
