NANAIMO — A total of 14 athletes from VIP Gymsports performed well at the recent Artistic and Trampoline Gymnastics B.C. Championships in Surrey.

Held April 4-6, the event drew over 800 athletes, coaches and judges from across the province and the Yukon.

VIP Gymsports is in it’s fourth year as a club and coach Megan Conway said for many athletes it was their first time at such a major event and an opportunity to gain valuable experience.

“From a coaches perspective I was very proud of our team. They managed errors with ease and performed with excellence.”

Cylus Tisserand won three gold medals as well as the Level 1-4 all-around BC championship.

He captured gold in both Level 3 trampoline and double-mini trampoline plus gold in Level 2 tumbling.

“The all-around levels 1-4 are combined with both the men and women so this makes it very difficult to receive the award,” Conway explained. “Cylus has been named to team BC for the Western Canada Cup this June in Winnipeg.”

Owen Harbo achieved a gold medal in tumbling at national Level 6, a gold in national Level 5 in mixed synchro trampoline and a bronze in national Level 6 trampoline.

“He completed a new mount on double-mini, a triple front pike with a half twist,” Conway said. “Owen is the third Canadian and 35th worldwide to complete this skill since 2010. It is very difficult.”

Brooklyn Stobbe earned gold in national Level 5 mixed synchro on trampoline, while Annabelle Price took silver in double-mini trampoline Level 4.

Ari Mowat won gold in Level 2 tumbling and bronze in Level 3 trampoline while also finishing fifth all-around in levels one through four.

In Level 1 tumbling Carter Mills picked up a gold medal, plus a Level 2 gold in both trampoline and double-mini in the 12 and under age group.

Bryn Walter Parker was a gold medalist winning in Level 3 double-mini trampoline in the 13 plus category.

Both Hugo Roguski and Koby Fletcher won provincial medals in their categories as well.

VIP Gymsports qualified for the team finals at provincials and won the Tumbling Club Championship.

With their recent results club members Harbo, Stobbe and Taylor Pillinger have all qualified for the upcoming Canadian Championships in Calgary May 26-30.
