ACRD asked to permanently fund tourist info centre

The Alberni Valley Tourist Information Centre will remain closed as local governments continue to wrestle over who should pay the bill.
The city had been giving the Chamber of Commerce $89,000 a year to run the centre, but stopped funding last month, arguing the regional district should foot the bill since it’s a valley wide service.
At yesterday’s ACRD meeting, Chamber CEO Jolleen Dick asked regional district directors for a grant-in-aid to cover this years costs, and then make the tourist centre a consistently funded service like the Sproat Lake Marine Patrol.
Directors have asked for a detailed financial plan.
