NANAIMO — One step forward, one back for the Clippers as they returned from the holiday break.

In the second leg of a weekend double header, the Nanaimo Clippers took on the Prince George Spruce Kings at the northern B.C. city on Sunday, Dec. 29.

The home side broke the deadlock through a relatively even first period, with a goal at the 14:38 mark on a powerplay to make it 1-0. The score remained to the intermission, with the Spruce Kings outshooting Nanaimo 13-8.

Flows in the second period favoured the Spruce Kings heavily, as they took advantage of a few powerplay opportunities and outshot the Clippers 14-2, scoring once for a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Prince George extended their advantage again to make it 3-0, before Luke Lavery scored on a late powerplay with three minutes remaining in the third period.

Connor DeTurris and Garin Ludwig assisted on the play.

The Spruce Kings added an empty netter to seal a 4-1 win, splitting a weekend series on home ice and drawing even with Nanaimo in the BCHL standings.

Chazz Nixon took the loss in net, stopping 30 of 33 Prince George shots.

Nanaimo will travel back to Vancouver Island on Monday, Dec. 30, then prepare to be in Port Alberni to take on the Bulldogs on Friday, Jan. 3.
