By-election campaign begins

Candidates in the upcoming municipal by-election will begin campaigning this weekend.

6 candidates will spend the next 4 weeks trying to attract enough votes to win the City Council seat that former Mayor John Douglas held before he died suddenly this past summer.

Shinahkoh Couture, Brennan Wauters, Tom Verbrugge, Scott Lemkay, Debra Hamilton and Richard Hunealt have been nominated to run, and Mayor Sharie Minions said she looks forward to welcoming a new person to council.

“I think that our council as a whole will certainly welcome whoever the community chooses to send,” she said. “I think that it’s positive very much especially in a by-election that we get six people to want to put their names forward and work as a part of our council and represent their city.”

While the general voting day is Saturday December 14th at Echo Centre from 8am until 8pm, there are two advance voting opportunities on Wednesday December 4th and 11th.
