Clippers put on character performance in 4-3 win over Chiefs

NANAIMO — The Clippers had suffered heartbreak in consecutive home games before gutting out a 4-3 victory against Chilliwack.

Chazz Nixon was tremendous in net with 47 save and Joel Plante was an offensive catalyst with two goals.

Plante scored the only goal of the first period and Nixon was the story of the second with 19 saves in the middle frame.

The Chiefs pulled ahead with two quick goals in the third period but Nanaimo showed resolve to retake the lead.

Luke Lavery tied the game after converting a cross ice pass from former Chief Dylan Kinch and Chase Hull converted on a power play rebound.

Plante’s second of the night into an empty net looked like an insurance marker but ended up being the game winner thanks to a late Chilliwack goal by Mateo Mrsic.

Other Chilliwack tallies went to Caleb Malhotra and Savin Virk.

The Clippers were outshot 50-29 while going 1/2 on the power play and killing off their only time shorthanded.

The win snaps a four game losing streak and perhaps eases the sting of losing three and four goal leads in back to back games.

Nanaimo will now go out on the road for games against Coquitlam on Nov. 1 and they play the Chiefs again in Chilliwack on Nov. 2.
