NANAIMO — A 19-year-old driver lost their life in a late-night crash along the Trans-Canada Hwy.

Emergency services were called to Hwy. 1 between Aqua Terra Rd. and Timberlands Rd., by the south end of Nanaimo Airport, around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, following a single-vehicle collision.

Cpl. Alex Bérubé said in a statement first responders tried to revive the driver, but they were eventually pronounced dead on scene.

“The Trans Canada highway was closed for several hours to allow for the initial investigation at the scene to take place. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.”

Drivers in the area were detoured through Cassidy while investigators worked the scene.

The vehicle, a Nissan 350Z, was travelling southbound at the time of the incident.

Anyone with further information related to the car or the crash is asked to contact Ladysmith RCMP at 250-245-2215, quoting file number 2024-3401.
