Nanaimo RCMP announce new Superintendent and detachment commander
NANAIMO — A new officer is heading up the Harbour City’s police force.
Supt. Andrew Burton was appointed the new Officer In Charge of the Nanaimo RCMP, effective immediately, after serving in the role in an acting capacity for the last year.
The promotion for Burton comes after a 30-year policing career with stops in Smithers, Bella Coola, Kamloops, Merritt, Port Alberni, Quesnel and Regina, before moving to Nanaimo.
“I am honoured and excited to have been selected as the new Officer in Charge for Nanaimo detachment,” Burton said in a statement. “This role represents tremendous responsibility, and I remain committed to serving our communities with integrity, hard work and dedication.”
