Hayduk ducks debate

Next week’s local All-Candidates meeting is in doubt after BC Conservative Candidate Adam Hayduk indicated he won’t be attending.
Sponsored every election by the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce, chair Chris Washington says she’s baffled by the Conservative’s decision.
“It’s disappointing,” she said. “The chamber commerce is a not for profit organization and it remains non-partisan. To me it’s just kind of crazy. It’s a perfect opportunity and in the past we’ve had hundreds of people there which saves them a lot of time and energy, but that’s their choice I guess.”
Hayduk has also refused requests for media interviews, responding only through unverified texts.
Green Party’s Ross Reid also declined to participate in the October 9th Alberni All-Candidates meeting due to work commitments.
Incumbent NDP MLA Josie Osborne has confirmed her participation in all events.
An October 8th All-Candidates meeting at ADSS will happen regardless of attendence according to teacher Ann Ostwald, who said they won’t be hiding the empty chairs.
