Port Conference highlights Alberni
More than 200 maritime leaders will be arriving in Port Alberni today for the annual Association of Canadian Port Authorities conference.
The bulk of the conference will be at the Alberni Athletic Hall, with special events at McLean Mill, riding the train and a social at the casino.
The Port Alberni Port Authority’s Manager of Marketing, Communications and Public Relations Carmela Ferro says it’s an opportunity to show off the uniqueness of our west coast port.
“It’s the national conference and we’re one of the smaller ports, so it’s actually quite exciting for us to host and show how we’re a little bit different from the other ports,” she said. “We’ve really diversified our operation so we don’t do a lot of big shipping containers, but we have diversified to support a lot of local businesses and opportunities for growth, especially in the economic sector.”
