Clippers lose back and forth battle 7-5 to Bulldogs

NANAIMO — After not playing for ten months the Clippers had an emotional preseason battle with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

The Clippers lost 7-5 in contest with several momentum changes and nastiness spilling over between old rivals.

Nanaimo got up 2-0 on goals by Cole Lonsdale and then Chase Hull on the power play.

Alberni Valley’s Evan Stastny made it 2-1 before the end of the first period and Brady McIsaac’s power play goal marker evened the contest early in the second.

Nanaimo pushed back with goals by Dylan Kinch and Jack O’Donnell to once again get up by a pair.

McIsaac scored again to bring the score to 4-3 Clippers late in the middle frame.

The game was stopped for several minutes in the last minute of the second after a check leveled by Nanaimo’s Morgan Hackman on Calle Sandstrom left the Bulldogs defenceman injured and unable to leave the ice.

The teams took an early intermission and Sandstrom was eventually able to head for the dressing room under his own power.

Hackman was given a major penalty and a game misconduct on the play and the Bulldogs scored three times on that man advantage.

First McIsaac completed his hat trick then Grayson Badger and Jesse Allecia also cashed in.

During the penalty filled third period, the Clippers Joel Plante and Dryden Kuramoto exchanged power play goals to cap the score at 7-5 Alberni Valley.

The final shots were 32-32 with Nanaimo going 2/5 on the power and 2/7 killing penalties.

The Clippers have one more preseason game left in Victoria on Sept. 14.

They’ll open the regular season on Sept. 20 on the road in Alberni Valley.
